Lions leaping on the pedestal of a group of lanterns
Before climbing the stone steps to the Yomeimon gate, there are a number of lanterns. The number of lanterns in the precincts of the temple is said to be lightly over 100, the most famous of which are a large octagonal turning lantern dedicated by the Dutch East India Company, a Nanban iron lantern dedicated by Date Masamune, and a Chinese copper lantern dedicated by Shimazu Iehisa.
On the pedestals of those lanterns, lions may be leaping, so don't miss them.
